ComFest fave makes third appearance

Myke Rock, solo bass and vocals, has a couple new wrinkles for fans at Community Festival 2006 (Front St. and Goodale Avenue in Goodale Park) in Columbus. The Community Fest or ComFest takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd, 24th and 25th as it has annually since 1972. Past ComFests have seen Myke Rock garner great press and spots on WBNS-10TV Eyewitness News, largely due to his riveting version of The Beatles' Strawberry Fields Forever! On ComFest Saturday on the Gazebo stage at 7:00pm, Rock will unveil his solo, bass and vocal rendition of Eric Clapton's classic Bell Bottom Blues and a couple brand new originals titled Can't Call Time and Confusion Say. He's also arranged a 5-song Beatles medley, all exclusively for ComFest. Rock said, "This is going to be great fun for me and I certainly hope that holds true for the audience! Bell Bottom Blues is one of my all-time favorite songs and I finally got it down to where I'm happy with it. It's a hell of a trick for a solo bassist to pull this one off, musically and vocally, let me tell you!" Rock's enthusiasm doesn't stop there. He's also chomping at the bit to break out 2 new songs he penned on June 3rd and June 8th of this year. "New songs are kind of like living creations. The ones that live, that is. Not all survive. But I have a really good feeling about this one. It's called Can't Call Time. Without giving too much away, it kind of sounds like something Aqualung -the band- or maybe Coldplay would do if they were 43 year old, black male, solo bass and vocalists from Columbus who cut his teeth in a late 70's punk band." Rock said with a smile. "My new CD Confusion Say: I'm a Little Dizzy! (StickyBackLabel/Bob's Guitar Shack) is to be out in the fall and wasn't going to have a title track. But Confusion Say was one of those special times for a songwriter when it just comes to you. It's about all the mixed signals in today's society like 'war is good for the economy - war is bad for life, obey the law - only if just, open your arms - but you better not trust', you know, life observations". Rock added that in addition to fan favorite Strawberry Fields Forever, he is putting together a Beatles medley of songs from Beatles On Bass! A Fab Four-String Salute. This ambitious -and possibly death defying- feat will consist of "beefsteak tomato portions" of Let It Be, A Day In The Life, Do You Want To Know A Secret, With A Little Help From My Friends and In My Life. Music fans, once again, will enjoy one of the most unique and talented artists in Central Ohio at arguably the greatest free, 3-day festival in the country.
