Myke Rock was born in 1963 in Columbus, Ohio. His
father played electric guitar around the house from time to time and piqued
Rock's interest in music, sparking exploration. Around age 11, Rock began to
play bongos in school talent shows. Bongos, led to congas, and congas led to
drums, all the while touching on guitar and then a spot of bass. At 13, he
taught his sister Nina to play basic but solid drums and his sister Beth to play
unconventional 2, 3 and 4 string guitar chords he calls "bass chords". Rock, of
course, took on bass duties. The threesome went on to
play ~and win!~ a
number of parks and recreation department talent shows, rewarded by playing at
the Ohio State Fair. The local CBS affiliate WBNS-TV broadcasted the show called
"Schoolies". At 15, Rock quit school to play bass for one of Columbus' first
punk rock bands Screaming Urge, almost immediately throwing himself into the
role of booking agent. Rock booked and played tours of the Midwest, East Coast,
Southeast (as far as Texas), and parts of Canada, while staging annual,
semi-annual and occasional nightclub-sized music festivals. Screaming Urge
disbanded after about 3 1/2 years, having recorded 2 full-length LPs and a
single that today sell for $50 to $125 each! After years in various bands, Rock
turned his attention to national television talk shows, in '95. He founded the
only service of its kind in the country. A full-time "stringer" service
providing pre-screened talk show guests who fit the topics producers posed. Rock
went on to book over 500 central Ohioans on programs such as Springer, Maury and
Sally. In fact, Rock himself appeared on national TV talk shows 11 times
including 3 trips as featured musical guest on the Jenny Jones Show, all tied in
to his adamant foot fetish! In late 2002, Rock began to prepare for an unusual
solo bass and vocal career. In August 2003, he lauched the MultiFestival
Showcase Series, the only ongoing statewide showcase series in the world, which
produces about 50 showcases a year. August 2003, also saw the release
of
"Dislabeled", a five-song CD of only bass guitar and vocal. Rock's 2nd solo
re-
lease "Scum Come From" is released on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005.
